Cavity Repairs

Your dentist in Montreal - Cavity Repairs and Treatment

Cavities are a an infectious disease of the tooth caused by a lesion of the enamel, the dentine or the cementum. A good dental hygiene combined with a regular dentist visit helps to prevent dental cavities.

Various symptoms may lead to a cavity. This list is not exhaustive but it may be :

  • Pain caused by the cold and/or sweet
  • Pain caused by heat and/or pressure
  • Visible damages, like a white stain, a brown stain or a hole in the tooth

These symptoms may be signs of active or secondary cavities. They may be more serious especially when there is a hole in the tooth. In the case of a dental emergency, it is necessary to see a dentist immediately since there is a risk of a devitalized tooth.

If there is a presence of one or more cavities, the first step for the dentist will be to assess the cavity’s stage.

If the cavity is at an early stage, the dentist will be able to preserve the pulp (nerve) and keep the tooth alive. However, in a more advanced stage (deep cavity), the tooth will have to be devitalized (root canal). Devitalization is done under local anesthesia. The dentists at Signature dentaire Montréal-Rosemont are able to proceed with cavity treatment and repair without pain for the patient.

Dental prevention above all

Even if genetic predispositions and some factors such as stress or a change in eating habits may have some impact on the formation of cavities, the best prevention starts with an excellent oral hygiene. It is also important to see your dentist for a dental exam and hygiene appointment at least twice per year. In addition to identifying potential cavity problems, the dental exam will allow to identify other oral health problems or periodontal diseases (gum disease).
